Monte Vista Sheltered U.S. History

What do I need for this class?
Textbook / Materials – We will be using United States History (AGS) textbook. This will be your major source of information for this class. Required materials are the following:

• pencils, pens (blue or black)
• colored pencils
• lined paper (white)
• highlighters (any color)
• notebook (perforated edges)

…and other materials needed for projects and research papers.

What are the rules?
Classroom Policies – I want all of you to be successful, and to get the most out of this class you need to know the following:

• Attendance – very simply, you need to be in class, actively learning, and demonstrating your knowledge through participation
• Electronic Devices – Not allowed at any time!
• Food / Drink – Only water bottles will be allowed
• Tardiness – no exceptions will be made, when the bell has rung you need to be in your assigned seat and prepared for the period, LOCKOUT is enforced
• Restroom Passes – you will be given four bathroom passes for the entire semester – use and keep them wisely because extras will not be distributed
• Missed Assignments / Tests – Late work will be given late credit for a maximum of 70%. If you are absent (excused only) on the day of a quiz, test, or midterm, you must arrange a time to complete it during my advisory, no exceptions.
• Participation –Participation will be graded throughout the semester. I will go over what good participation is and how you can score well in this category.
• Academic Dishonesty – any form of cheating (this includes plagiarism) on any assignment, quiz, or test will result in the following:
• referral
• no credit
• phone call home

How will my grade be calculated?

Grading Scale –U.S. History grading policy is the following:

40%
Class Work
Homework
Participation

60%
Quizzes
Tests
Projects/ Papers
Final

What do I do if I have questions or concerns?
Support – First, I am here to help you. If you have a question about the material, raise your hand because it’s probable that your peers have the same concerns. Tutoring will be available throughout the semester and may become mandatory if necessary. I will notify you of times and dates.
